Focus:Hold the Shutter button down halfway use both hands to take the picture and hold the camera still,keep the camera close to your body
Lighting (artificial vs natural): sun should always be over your shoulder, have good back lighting, clouds are a good thing

importance of background: eliminate unnecessary items in the pictures background, plain backgrounds are best
Rule of thirds: divides a picture into 9 grids (object should be in one of the middle corners of the grid), move subject from the center of the picture
